!BIOGRAPHY: From Howland genealogy: SAMUEL HOWLAND, Jr., son of Samuel (5) and Sarah (Soule) Howland, Sr., b. Dartmouth, MA 12 Mar. 1726/27; d. Northeast, Dutchess Co., NY 20/21 Jan. 1825 in his 98th year; on 11 Apr. 1765 he sold his farm consisting of 97 acres for 436 pounds and 10 shillings to his uncle Jonathan and Lydia (Sisson) Soule which allowed him and his family to remove to the Quaker community of Schituate County of Providence, RI where he purchased a 217 acre farm for 350 pounds; Samuel & his family (excepting sons Edward, George, Jeremiah and the unidentified 6th daughter (Sarah?) removed from Scituate, RI to Nine Partners, Dutchess Co., NY in 1781 (he sold his farm and lands of 147 acres for 1200 pounds 29 Jan 1781 to son Edward); his will dated 22 Nov. 1819, codicils dated 5 May 1822 & 18 May 1823 He m. Little Compton, Newport, RI 27 Oct. 1748, RI ESTHER BROWNELL, daughter of Jeremiah and Deborah (Burgess) Brownell; b. Little Compton, RI 23 Aug. 1732; d. probably in the Town of Washington, Dutchess Co., NY 18 Feb. 1814 (aged 80 years 6 months) Brownell Lineage - Robert and Mary Brownell of Yorkshire, England had a son Thomas who married Ann Bourne; Thomas and Ann (Bourne) Brownell had son Thomas who m. Mary Pearce; Thomas and Mary (Pearce) Brownell had son Jeremiah who m. Deborah Burgess and had Esther who m.
