Samuel I. Houston, 92, of Albia Route 1, and a former Ottumwan, died today at 3:15 a.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital following an illness of one month.
A retired employe of the CB and Q Railroad he was born Oct. 20, 1879, in Davis County, the son of James and Margaret Crumrine Houston. He lived in Ottumwa from 1924 to 1958.
He was married to Mary J. Logue March 22, 1905. She died in 1948.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Wanda Williams and Mrs. Esther Stevens, both of Ottumwa; Mrs. Elsie Williams of Albia; and Mrs. Hildred Link of DuQuoin, Ill.; 22 grandchildren, 88 [or 68, number is hard to read], great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Schwartz of Long Beack, Calif.
He was also preceded in death by one son, John, and by five sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Scott Miller, assistant pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
