Samuel Hoadley lived on his farm in that part of Branford which is now Stony Creek. He served as sergeant in the 7th company, Capt. Josiah Buckingham, fourth Regiment, in 1755, enlisting September 11th and being discharged December 7th. He served in the Revolution as a private in the "Lexington Alarm" in the 6th company, First Regiment Continentals until September 23, 1775. On February 1, 1777, he enlisted "for the war" as a private in Capt. Jonas Prntice's company, 6th Connecticut Line. In 1781 he was a corporal in the 4th Connecticut Line
