21 Oct 1794: Samuel Brittin, 96 acres, Spruce Creek, a branch of Middle Fork of Holston River, Washington County, from Stephen Wheeler and Millie his wife. [Summers Annals of Southwest Virginia].
19 Nov 1811, Washington County, VA Deeds, Book 6, pg. 5: Indenture between Jonathan Brittan and Elizabeth his wife of the one part and Samuel Brittain of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Jonathan Brittan and Elizabeth his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred Pounds Currency to them well and truly in hand paid by the said Samuel Brittan at and before the ensealing & delivery hereof the receipt is hereby acknowledged... The following described tract piece or parcel of land situate in the County of Washington aforesaid.. corner of James Berrys land.. containing one hundred & forty four acres of land be the same more or less.. [Signed] Jonathan Brittan [Seal]. At a Court held for Washington County the 19th day of November 1811. This Indenture of bargain between Jonathan Brittan of the one part & Samuel Brittan of the other part was acknowledged in Court by the said Jonathan and ordered to be recorded. Teste: D. 19 Nov 1811, Washington County, VA Deeds, Book 6, pg. 8-9: Indenture between Samuel Brittan and Mary his wife of the one part and Michael Wolf of the other part both of Washington County and State of Virginia. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Brittan and Mary his wife for and consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the sd. Michael Wolf before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold... one certain tract or parcel of land containing by a Deed of conveyance bearing date the 21st day of Oct. 1794 from Stephen Wheeler and wife to the above bound Sam'. Brittan Ninety acres more or less and bounded as follows:... corner to William Philips... corner to John Hibbons land... containing by Deed of Conveyance from William Brittan & wife to the said Samuel Brittan for forty acres... [Signed] Samuel Brittan, Mary Brittan. At a Court held for Washington County the 19th day of November 1811. This Indenture bargain & sale between Samuel Brittan & Mary his wife of the one part & Michael Wolf of the other part was acknowledged in Court by the said Samuel & wife she having been first privily examined as the law directs and ordered to be recorded. 20 September 1813, Washington County, Will Book 4, pg. 34
Know all men by these presents that I Samuel Brittan of the County of Washington in the state of Virginia for and in consideration of the special trust and confidence reposed by me in Matthew Buchanan of the said County. I have nominated ordained and appointed him my true & Lawful attorney for me in my name and to my use to make sale of a tract of land in the said County for a title to which I hold a bond on Jonathan Brittan my father bearing date this day under penalty of One thousand Dollars, and after making sale thereof to demand and receive a title from the said Jonathan [Britton] to the purchaser thereof. I also authorize and empower my said attorney on the receipt of any money due to me for the price of the said tract of land to pay to the said Jonathan [Britton] whatever I may be indebted to him. Hereby ratifying and confirming whatever my said attorney shall do in the premises by virtue of these presents.
