SAMUEL BARD, a former well known resident of this town died at his home in Waukegan, Illinois, at one o'clock Monday afternoon, February 11, 1901 after a long illness. To a stomach trouble of long standing is ascribed the cause of Mr. Bard's death, although up to a few weeks ago he was able to be about. Deceased was 69 years of age on the 31st of January.

The funeral was held from his late home last week Wednesday morning and the interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Waukegan.

Sam BARD, as he was familiary known by the people of this town, was a man highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a man of broad experience and was always ready with a good word and a smile for everyone. He was an artist and has done some very creditable work with the brush, many of his specimens adorning the homes of his friends. Besides he was a skillful player on the clarionet. The older residents have heard him on numerous occasions and he has played in many orchestras.

Mr. BARD was born in this town January 31, 1832. About 1871 he went to Ohio where he remained until 1876 when he returned and settled in Cadiz, where he purchased from J. Elliott WILSON, a saw mill. This he operated for fourteen years. In 1890 he and his wife moved to Libertyville, Illinois and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Fremont KNIGHT. In 1896 Mrs. BARD died and shortly thereafter Dr. and Mrs. KNIGHT and Mr. BARD removed to Waukegan, Illinois. Mrs. KNIGHT preceded her father to the grave but a few months ago. Two years ago Mr. BARD was married to Mary PALMER, a well to do woman of Waukegan and here they have since maintained a pleasant and happy home.

Besides his widow the deceased is survived by his two sons, A. H. BARD of Cadiz and Samuel P. BARD, a druggist of Chicago, a sister Mrs. Maryette WOODWORTH of Franklinville and a brother Ashel Bard of Port Allegany, Pa.
