Letter fromRoberta Lien Fosdal to Carol Baker H ammers dated 3 Nov 2000. Hannah Walker was the daughter of Eli and Betsey Walker. Sa muel`s grandmother, Margaret Baker, andHenry A. Baker, wer e witnesses for his marriage to Hannah. Samuel joined the m ilitary and served for theUnion in the heavy artillery divi sion. He was discharged from service in 1864 when one of th e heavy gunsfell on his back, injuring him. After the war S amuel and Hannah lived in Rock County, Wisconsin, and hadfo ur children named Alice, Melvin, Nellie, and Jessie, a girl . By 1880, Samuel had moved his family toGreen County, Iowa , where he and Hannah lived out their lives and are burie d in the Scranton TownshipCemetery.
