Will of Samuel Adair
- Samuel Adair's Will
- aged and infirm but of sound mind and memory
- All real estate I have to devise was inherited from my brother the late Alexander Adair (containing 192 Acres) by John Adair, Jas. Adair's heirs, Mary McCorkle, Jane Adair, Margaret Lackey's heirs and myself. Making it six equal shares.
- John Adair purchased the undivided interest in the land of Margaret Lackey's heirs and had that and his own laid off and assigned to him. I purchased the remaining undivided interest to wit: Jane Adair's, Mary McCorkle's and Jas. Adair's heirs making my own 2/3 of the shares and supposed to be 140 Acres.
- I directed the shares of Mary McCorkle and Jas. Adair's heirs to be deeded to my son Samuel A. Adair to be taken as a devise to him.
- Remaining two shares or one half of my real estate to my daughter Florence M. Adair and I will that she and my said son Samuel A. Adair shall hold the entire tract and all buildings and appurtenances jointly.
- To my son J. L. Adair $125.00 to be paid by my said daughter Florence M. Adair in two years after my decease.
- Having satisfactorily settled with my son John G. Adair I make no devise or bequeath to him.
- To said son Samuel A. Adair and my said daughter Florence M. Adair, all my household and kitchen furniture and all other personal property of every description. they to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as convenient out of their own funds.
- Appoint Samuel A. Adair executor.

Biography of Samuel Adair
SAMUEL ADAIR- is one of the substantial farming residents of Rockbridge County, where he was born February 10, 1809, and has passed the years of his busy and useful life. He has a good farm of 130 acres, between Kerrs creek and Rockbridge Baths. He was a son of John and Polly (McCorkle) Adair, and he married Nancy H., daughter of William and Nancy (Welch) McCorkle. She was born in Rockbridge county in 1814, they were married in this county, March 23, 1843, and her death occurred April 27, 1863. Their children were: William H., born December 2, 1844; Lafayette, July 18, 1846; John G., December 23, 1849- these two now having homes in Rockbridge county; Samuel A., September 16, 1851, lives at home; Sallie M., August 19, 1854, died September 26, 1859; Florence M., August 8, 1856, lives at home. Two of these sons were Confederate soldiers, one serving through the war, and the other, William H., a member of Company C, 1st Virginia Cavalry, serving with his company until the battle of Gettysburg, July 3, 1863, when he went with the company into a charge, and never returned. He was said by some to have been killed by a shell, but his fate is that bitterest of record of war "Returned missing." Samuel Adair's postoffice address is Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge County, Virginia.
