    Sheafe, Sampson, Boston 1672, merch. wh in indent. of Apr. 1673 calls hims. of London, m. Mehitable, d. of Jacob Sheaffe, had Jacob, b. 1677; and Sampson, 1681, H. C. 1702, went, aft. 1685, to Newcastle, N. H. and in that Prov. was collector of the customs, memb. of the counc. 1698, and Secr. and Judge of the Sup. Ct. but came back to B. and d. 1724. From him most of the name in N. H. descend.

    Sheafe, Sampson, Esq., merchant, Newcastle, bp. in St. Faith's par., London, 26 Dec. 1646, s. of Edmund and Elizabeth (Cotton), was in N. E. perh. tempo. in Nov. 1668, ag. ± 21, and in Boston in 1672 but called of London. He 'visited' Newcastle in 1675, mov. there ab. 1693, but had Me. and N. H. interests earlier. … Dep. Collector of Customs for N. H. 1698-1707; Councillor and Secy. of the Prov. 1698; Clerk of Courts 1698; Commissary of exped. ag. Quebec 1711; in London in Apr. 1715, representing to the Lords of Trade 'if an enemy should possess themselves thereof (N. H.), as in the late war it was much feared, it would endanger the whole country.' … He d. in Boston soon aft. 6 Dec. 1725. His w. Mehitabel Sheafe, b. in Boston 28 May 1658, dau. of Jacob and Margaret (Webb), was his 2d cousin. Ch. rec. Boston: two Mehitabels, b. 10 Dec. 1677, 27 Nov. 1680.
