Ruthanna W. Markel
YORK - Ruthanna W. (Dubs) Markel, 84, formerly of Codorus Township, died Monday morning, July 5, 2004 at Country Meadows of Leaders Heights. She was the wife of Claude E. Markel, with whom she celebrated a 65th wedding anniversary this past June 24th.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock. Burial will be in Zion (Shaffer's) Church Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Officiating at the service will be her pastor the Rev. J. Thomas Shelley.
Mrs. Markel was born on October 30, 1919, a daughter of Jacob Dubs.
She retired in 1981 from Doespun in York, where she was employed as a seamstress for over 22 years. She was a member of Zion (Shaffer's) United Lutheran Church, Seven Valleys, the Viking Club, York and at AARP.
Mrs. Markel also leaves three sons, Claude L. Markel of York Haven, Stuart J. Markel of York and Paul H. Markel of Glen Rock; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gladys Wildasin of Hanover, Helena Miller of Codorus, Doris Cashman of Bendersville, Pa., and Charlotte Dubbs of Spring Grove; four brothers, Elwood Meckley of Magne Utah, Clitus Meckley Jr. of Hanover, Glenn Meckley of Glenville and Earl Meckley of Fort Myers, Fla. She was predeceased by two grandsons, Rick Markel and Kevin Markel; and by a brother, Sterling Meckley.
