Claude E. Markel
SHREWSBURY - Claude E. Markel, 88, of the Barbara J. Egan Nursing Center in Shrewsbury, formerly of the West Manchester Township and Codorus Township areas, died Friday, August 26, 2005, at the home. He was the husband of Ruthanna W. (Dubs) Markel, who passed away July 5, 2004.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, with his pastor, the Rev. J. Thomas Shelley, officiating. Burial will be in Zion (Shaffer's) Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Markel was born September 28, 1916, in Codorus Township, a son of the late Jacob H. and Laura W. (Kopp) Markel.
He retired in 1981 from Teledyne-Readco in York, where he was a saw operator, after 30 years of service. He was a life member of the Hanover Moose Lodge #227 and was a member of Zion Shaffer's United Lutheran Church in Seven Valleys and the AARP.
Mr. Markel is survived by three sons, Claude L. Markel of York Haven, Stuart J. Markel of York, and Paul H. Markel of Glen Rock; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, John F. Markel of York.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Rick Markel and Kevin Markel; a sister, Ada Trone; and two brothers, William Markel and George Markel.
