Ruth Doris Watenpaugh, daughter of Frank Martin Watenpaugh and May Annabell Cory, was born in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1907. She graduated from So. Oregon College where she received her degree in Home Economics. At college she met and married Donald Graham Wright in 1929. Soon after WWII, Ruth obtained a teaching credential and she had a teaching career in elementary schools for over 20 years. Ruth died in Arroyo Grande at the age of 93 in 2001. Ruth is remembered as devoted mother, a talented seamstress, and an independent spirit.

The Watenpaugh Family can be traced back to the family’s first American patriarch, Andreas Watenpaugh, who arrived from Germany around the Revolutionary War period. The Cory Family can be traced back to Robert Z. Cory. He died during the Civil War. Robert Z. Cory served in the Union Army in Co. A, 87th Indiana Infantry Regiment.
