Ruth went to Goshen College.  She taught one year in Pucker Street School in the York Township one-room schoolhouse near Pleasant Hill.  Then she moved to Wyoming and taught school there for 10 years.  She liked the West and bought land.  She met and married Fred Carson, also a landowner, near her land.  At one time she was Postmistress.  Because of Fred's health (he developed asthma), they sold their ranch and moved to Redlands, California in 1945.
