Ruth Harrison Nelson 7 June 1768 – 20 December 1849 Ruth was born the 7th of June 1768 near Linville Creek, in what was part of Augusta County that later became Rockingham County (1778) in Colonial Virginia. She is the next to youngest in the large family of Jeremiah and Catherine Harrison. She met Daniel Nelson who was born the 19th of November 1755 near the Clinch River area which was to become Scott, Russell and Washington Counties. It is written that Daniel was a soldier in the Revolutionary War enlisting in the Rockingham Militia as an Ensign with Captain George Huston’s Company, November 23rd, 1779. It is believed he lost a leg in the fighting. He is said to be a close relative of Thomas Nelson, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The couple married in 1788 in Washington County, Tennessee and had a family of eight daughters, each named for Ruth, her mother and several of her sisters. Catherine, Charity Margaret, Elenor, Ruth, Abby, Mary, Elizabeth and Margaret. Along with other relatives, the Osborns and Alleys, they moved westward, through what was to become Cincinnati, Ohio and ended in the area of Franklin and Decatur Counties Indiana. By 1814, they had moved from Washington County, Tennessee to Scott County and later Franklin County, Indiana living on Walnut Creek. Daniel died the 29th of November 1821 and his will is recorded in Franklin County with Ruth and his son-in-law, Cyrus Alley as administrators. Ruth died the 20th day of December 1849 at the age of 81 years, 6 months, 13 days of a fever after being ill for 21 days. Her death is recorded in Franklin County, Indiana and she was buried in the Nauvoo Cemetary, also known as the Alley Cemetery in Milford, Decatur County, Indiana. Her will lists her daughters as heirs and was administered by James Thomas Osborn, son-in-law married to her daughter, Ruth.
