Ruth Burch
Memorial services for Ruth D. Burch, 88, a resident of Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, are at a later date at the Friendship Manor Chapel, Rock Island. The body has been cremated, Inurement is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.
Memorials may be made to the nursing center or Southpark Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, of which she was a member.
Hodgsen Funeral Home, Rock Island is in charge of arrangements.
She died at the nursing center Friday.
Ruth Burch was born Oct. 29, 1900, in Metz, Ind. She attended Augustana College and graduated from the University of Iowa. She taught school in Iowa two years, then became a teacher in the Rock Island school system, where she was director of special education.
Mrs. (sic) Burch was a 60-year member of Southpark Presbyterian Church; president and treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary International Education Society; Rock island Community Council of Social Agencies; historian and former president and secretary of Rock island Chapter 48 Council for Exceptional Children; a life-member of and served on committees for the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children. She was former president of Altrusa Club, and a member of the American Association for Retired Teachers; Ministering Circle Kings Daughters and the American Association of University Women, Rock Island-Moline branch.
Survivors include sisters, Elsa McBride, Moline, and Mrs. Hugh J. Lawson, Rock Island; a niece, Virginia Woodruff, Bettendorf; a nephew, Dr. Earl (sic) F. McBride, Texas; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
