Obituary

ROY E. HOOVER DIES; MASON, RETIRED U.S. STEEL ENGINEER

 Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Apache Junction, Ariz., for Roy E. Hoover, 79, of Box 1067, R.D. 3, Apache Junction, a former Youngstown resident who died at 8:45 p.m. Friday at his home following a stroke.  He had been ill some time.
 Mr. Hoover was born Nov. 28, 1889, in Canton, a son of John and Lucy Hoover.  He came to Youngstown as a child and left 11 years ago after retirement from U.S. Steel Corp.'s Ohio Works.  An engineer, he served the company 48 years.  He was a member and warden of the church.  A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Hillman Lodge, Aut Mori Grotin here, Bethlehem Shrine and Corem Chapter, O.E.S. and Scottish Rite of Phoenix.  Last January he was presented a 50-year certificate for service to Masonry.
 His brother, the late Charles D., a local artist, did the paintings in the dome of the Mahoning County Court House.  His first wife, the former Mabel Crozier, died in 1940.
 Besides  his wife, the former Margaret Bishop Roth, whom he married in 1941, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Marian Ford of Pittsburgh; twin sons, John L. of Collingswood, N.J., and Charles of San Diego, Calif.; three stepsons, Ted Roth of Portland Ore., William J. Roth of North Lima and Robert Roth of North Jackson; a step daughter, Mrs. Debbie Donald of Youngstown; a sister, Mrs. E. May Traut of Youngstown; 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
 Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Mercer Mortuary in Phoenix.  The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to the Roy E. Hoover Memorial Fund of his church, which he helped found and served six years as a warden, and sent to the church at R.D. 3 Box 1130, Apache Junction 85220.
