[edit] ObituarySidney Dailey News, Fri, Jun 23, 1933, p 1 ROY GREEN, FORMER SIDNEY RESIDENT, PASSES AWAY HEALTH HAD BEEN FAILING FOR MONTHS. Formerly Operated Battery Shop in the City. MOVED TO TROY TWO YEARS AGO. Funeral Services Sunday Afternoon From Son's Home. Relatives and friends were grieved Friday when announcement was made of the death of Roy G. Green, of Troy, formerly a prominent resident of this city, who passed away early Friday morning, at the Stouder Hospital in Troy. The condition of Mr. Green has been serious for the past week when peritonitis developed following an abdominal operation performed on Tuesday, June 13. However his friends were hopeful for his recovery and the message telling of his death was a sad shock. Mr. Green had spent the greater part of his life in Sidney and for twelve years was associated with the business life of the city. He conducted the Green Battery Service, the business located at the [corner] of North and Main avenue. For sixteen years previous to opening the service station he was the efficient engineer of the plant of the former Hickok Candy Company. Two years ago he moved from Sidney when he accepted the position of engineer for the Miami County Children's Home at Troy, Mrs. Green accompanying him there and accepting the position as matron over the boys at the Home. The deceased had been in failing health since he suffered an attack of influenza in January and when his condition became more severe a few weeks ago, he submitted to an operation with the hope of regaining his health. Roy G. Green was born on October 24, 1874, in Anna and was the son of the late William and Katherine Harriett Green. He was the last of that family to pass away, his only sister, Mrs. Daisy Fox, of Dayton, passing away several years ago. He was united in marriage with Miss Bessie Hathaway of this city on December 31, 1899, and three children were born to their union, two of whom survive with his widow, Mrs. Catherine Green White of Detroit, Mich., and Othel L. Green of this city. One son, Lester, died a number of years ago. Five grandchildren also survive. Mr. Green possessed an admirable character and was held in the highest esteem by his many friends and business associates. He was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School, serving in various capacities with the Sidney church while a resident here and on moving to Miami county transferred his membership to the Methodist Church at Casstown. The remains were removed from Stouder hospital to the O. B. Taylor Funeral Home and Saturday noon will be removed to the home of his son, Othel L. Green at 614 E. Johnston Drive, where friends may call anytime Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday morning. Funeral services will be conducted from the Green home at two-thirty o'clock Sunday afternoon by Rev. Barker of Casstown. Burial will be made at Graceland cemetery. References
