Per Eugene Cornelius: (Rowan was living in the household of Nelson and Margaret Word in the 1850 Blount County census). Rowan served Company I, Hale's 31st Alabama/49th Alabama Infantry as a private during the Civil War. 1855 Blount Co., AL State Census: Rowan Tidwell Head of Family; Males < 21 = 2; Males > 21 = 1; Females < 21 = 2; Females > 21 = 1; Total 6 1866 Blount Co., AL State Census: Rowan Tidwell Head of Family; Males < 10 = 3; Males 10-20 = 2; Male 50-60 = 1; Females 10-20 = 2; Female 50-60 = 1 Tidwell, Rowan & C. - purchased from Elias Dunkin a tract of land located in Township 20 Range 8 of Perry Co. Jan. 14, 1873. Recorded in Deed Book "Y" pages 136, 137, 141, 142. >From Genforum: Tidwell message #1651: It seems Rowan's nickname was "Ryan" which is what Cinciana called him in her Confederate Widow's Pension application in 1899. In 1860, they were in Blount Co. In 1870, they were in Perry Co., AL, and by 1880, only she was living in Perry Co. with her son. Rowan "Ryan" Tidwell must have died prior to 1880. In her father's estate Settlement papers in 1883, she is listed as residing in Jefferson Co., AL, but she filed her Pension application in Perry Co. in 1899. I haven't located either of their graves, yet. any additional guidance would be greatly appreciated. >From Genforum: Tidwell message #1653: In reviewing the Confederate Widows Pension Application of Rowan "Ryan" Tidwell, his wife Cinciana/Cinthia Ann Tidwell stated that Ryan Tidwell died Nov. 11, 1873 near Jericho, Perry Co., AL. I haven't located a tombstone yet, but will keep on looking so I can have proof of his birth date. The same his wife Cinciana/Cinthia Ann Tidwell.
According to the Jefferson County, Alabama Pension Applications (#14196) "Cynthia A. Tidwell" died on April 13, 1906 in Jefferson County, Alabama. I found her name in a newspaper list of Confederate Widows attending a Meeting in Birmingham prior to her death. She had siblings, children and grandchildren living in Birmingham. It seems sometime between 1900 Census and 1906, she moved to Birmingham and died there. It is possible the family brought her to Birmingham in her 80's, maybe for medical reasons instead of keeping her in a very rural area. I'm checking cemeteries where some of her children and grandchildren are buried to see if she can be found. References
