Rosalie Elsperman Hirzel, 94, passed away at Otterbein Portage Valley on T uesday, January 4, 2005. Rosalie was born to Joseph and Alma (Konapka) Els perman in Toledo OH on July 8, 1910. She was one of the first graduat es of the University of Toledo when she graduated with an education degr ee in 1928. Mrs. Hirzel was a member of the Swiss Turner Verein where s he met her husband, Karl. On June 1, 1935, they were married. Rosalie w as a loving and devoted wife of Karl Hirzel, Sr., owner of Hirzel Canni ng Company. She worked along side her husband in the factory for many year s, as this was a life's work for both Rosalie and Karl. Rosalie loved h er family dearly and they were her pride and joy. She had six children a nd was a loving grandmother to 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildre n. Rosalie enjoyed dancing and singing and was one of the first pupi ls of the Beatrice Gardner dance studio. She also was a member of the Tole do Swiss ladies society and sang with the Toledo Swiss singers. She, alo ng with her husband, spent many years on the island of Eleuthera in the Ba hamas. There they worked to educate and enhance the lives of many Bahamia ns in Gregorytown. Her husband, Karl Sr., and her son, John Edward Hirzel preceded Rosal ie in death. Surviving are sons, Karl (Barbara) Hirzel, Jr., Joseph (Julia ), Wm (Beverly); daughters, Marilyn (Louis) Kozma, and Rosalie Ann Mo ore as well as daughter-in-law, Lizabeth Hirzel. The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Ho me, Oregon Chapel, on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be he ld in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow at La ke Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family would like to suggest cont ributions made to the Karl & Rosalie Hirzel Penta CO scholarship fu nd or the charity of the donor's choice.
