Gazette, The (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, IA) - June 8, 2004 Ronald B. Scheffert, 61, of Ely, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, in St. Lukes's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jeff Borgwardt. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his son, Gregory Ronald and wife Kelly Scheffert of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Yvonne Palmer of Des Moines, Pat Lumbus of Oelwein and Josephine (Arnold) Schlitter of Luana; two brothers, David (Sherri) Scheffert and Burdette (Merrill) Scheffert, both of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Delbert, Bob and Stanley. Ronald was born May 3, 1943, the son of Yvo and Vivian Schroeder Scheffert in Monona, Iowa. He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 4, 1967, Ronald was united in marriage to Margaret Flack in Postville, Iowa. For 25 years, he worked for Wilson's Meat Packing and then worked at Iowa Glass for 10 years. Ronald enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed bird watching, driving his 64 Chevy BelAir and loved spending time with his family and friends. Ron will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
