This is from a thoroughly (impressively) researched book called "The Turner Family -- Discovering the Father of Thomas Turner, John Turner, and Philip Turner of Rowan County, N.C. and Madison County, KY" by Virginia Darcy Slaughter, 8405 N. Wagon Trail Rd., Columbia, MO 65202.Roger (Jr.), Elias, and Thomas Turner were the sons of Roger Turner, Sr., born ca. 1689, probably Chester Co. PA, married ca. 1726 Elizabeth Evan or Ellis in Surrey Co., PA. Roger Sr. was the brother of John, b. ca. 1705-10, d. bef. 1768, married Sarah Williams, b. ca. 1710-20, d. aft. 1778.John and Sarah had at least ten children, Thomas (1734-1822) m. Catherine Smith (1735-ca. 1780); Katherine; John (1738-1813) m. Rebeckah Smith (ca. 1743-1774); Philip (1762-1852) m. Abigail (Abby) Hickman (1768-1844); Edward (Ned) (ca. 1736-1803) m. 1st Ann Williams, 2nd Ann "Nancy" Davis or Davies; Sary (ca. 1748-ca.1830) m. Samuel Freeman (1740-1815); Rebecah (ca. 1754-1835) m. Elias Barnes (ca. 1751-ca. 1772); Hannah m. Shadrack Barnes; Elenor (1740) m. John Hunt Prather. The children of Roger Sr. and John his brother were mostly born in Spottsylvania or Augusta or Frederick County, VA. The families all moved to Rowan County around 1750. John and Roger Sr. were the sons of Thomas Turner, who was probably an Irish (Scots-Irish) Quaker. Besides Roger, Elias, and Thomas, the other children of Roger Sr. were Robert (ca. 1729-ca. 1781) m. Rhoda, poss Hayes; Mary (b. 4/4/1742) m. 1st Marmaduke Kimbrough, 2nd John Allen; and Hannah. The book doesn't list a wife for Elias.Thomas married 1st Mary ___; 2nd Charity Swain. The will of Marmaduke Kimbrough dated 22 Oct. 1768, says he was living on land called "Uwharry" and that he had a wife Mary (Turner), sons John, Orman, George, Golman, and daughter Anna. The executors of the will were Roger Turner Jr. and Elias Turner.Elias, Roger Jr., and Robert Turner were Tories during the Revolution.Roger and Robert were captains. It was common for the land of people who fought on the side of the Brits to be confiscated after the war, and apparently the land belonging to Robert was, although it was later returned to his widow.A lot of these Turners moved to Madison County KY after the war, along with a lot of other folks.I have a Turner ancestor who married a Parke (another family that were Tory sympathizers and who moved en masse to Madison County after the war.)I know you said you aren't a Turner descendant, but I thought you might find some or all of this interesting.
