Utica Observer-Dispatch, 28 Jan 1988: ROGER C. VanSLYKE Mr. Roger C. VanSlyke, 63, of River RD, Rome, died Wednesday, January 27, 1988 in Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, after a long illness. He was born in Rome NY on May 5, 1924, son of Clayton and Erma Barrett VanSlyke. He served with the U.S. AirForce during W.W. II. On June 22, 1963, he married Mary S. Lanza. Mr. VanSlyke retired from Pettibone Corp. after 31 years. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. John (Karen) Bishop, Cherry Point NC, and two grandsons. Funeral service will be held on Saturday... at the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, 218 W. Court ST, Rome. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery...
