1901 - With parents, living in Skinningrove, Yorkshire (North Riding). Aged 4. Army pension records WO364, summary notes from various papers found: 1915 - Signed up for 4 years service with the Army on 23 August 1912, at Whitby, Yorks. Regimental number 4943, joined the 2nd Bn Yorkshire Regiment. Address 55 High St, Skinningrove, same address for his father, named as Wm Womack. Some of the army papers use the spelling Wormack. On enlistment was aged 19, height 5ft 3½ ins, chest 35in with 2 in expansion, certified fit. In later papers he states he fell out during his first march and was discharged after 6 months service. 1916 - Called up for war service. Re-enlisted on 28 July for the duration of the war as a private in the Labour Corps (no. 432592). 1918 - Certified permanently medically unfit for service on 15 March due to a heart condition which he had had since childhood. Granted a pension. Single. |
