Research notes

  • Son Robert is named as an orphan of Owen Thomas in the 17 Apr 1772 guardian bond, yet he is NOT named in his father's earlier will of 15 Feb 1772. This indicates that he was likely born in between those dates.
  • Robert is NOT named in the 09 May 1778 will of his grandfather, John Carter, yet his sister Sarah is. This could mean that Robert had died. More research needed.

[cos1776 note: I am bothered by the comma in between "Robert" and "Thomas" as written in this abstract. No sons are named in Owen's will, and the guardian bond was filed only 2 months later. Usually this indicates a child born after the will was written. In this case, it appears that either twin sons were born, or the comma is an error and only one son was born (i.e., surname = Thomas). More proof is needed to say for sure.]
