An obituary for Robert Badger Seaver was published in "The Daily Star" newspaper in Oneonta, New York on 8 March 2006. It reads:

"Robert Badger Seaver

"Cooperstown -- Robert Badger Seaver, 81, died Sunday, March 5, 2006. Bob was born in Boston on Sept. 15, 1924, to James Daniel Seaver and Margaret Stewart Brigham.

"As a child, he spent summers on Otsego Lake at his grandfather's camp and at Camp Chenango for Boys.

"He graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover, in 1942, and from Amherst College as a member of the class of 1946. He also attended Williams College for one year in the U.S. Navy V-12 program and the Midshipman School at Notre Dame, before joining the crew of the destroyer U.S.S. Niblack DD 424 as first Lieutenant for sea duty during World War II.

"He began his teaching career at Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia. He then taught at the Marin Country Day School near San Francisco and for several summers at the Mohican Reading School before moving permanently to Cooperstown in 1960, when he became supervisor of the experimental "talking typewriter" reading program at Bassett Hall. He also taught at Cooperstown Elementary, ran the "Six Mile House" antique shop near the Hickory Grove Inn and began the newspaper column, "The Badger."

"Bob was a proud member of the P.A.E. Society and also of the PSI fraternity at Amherst.

"Locally he served as the president of the Cooperstown PTA in the early 1960's, was a founding and current member of the Brookwood Foundation, was a current member of the Otsego Gold Club and the Mohican Club.

"He was also a charter member of the Friends of the Cooperstown Library, a former member of the Cooperstown Country Club, and an original member of the Town of Otsego Planning Board.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Patricia Sheil, after 30 years of marriage. In the spring of 2005, after 24 years together, he married Veronica Pilar Gil.

"He leaves Veronica; his five children, Brigham Robert, Margaret Ann, Sarah Ann, Maud Stewart and Daniel Badger; Veronica's two children, James Knox Patrick IV and Lori Woodward Patrick Cabrera; two sisters, Margaret Ann Seaver and Sally Seaver Johnson; three stepbrothers, Harry, Buddy and Bobby Hopewell; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude McCormick, Dolores Gil and JoAnn Smith; his mother-in-law, Julia Gil; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

"A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Christ Church, Cooperstown, with the Rev. Samuel B. Abbott, rector officiating.

"Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery in the spring.

"Bob can be remembered by giving blood to the American Red Cross, or by gifts to the Louis Busch Cancer Treatment Center at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown or to the Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta.

"Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown."
