This family is listed in the book "Edsons in America." Nathan Edson and his family moved from Petersham, Massachusetts to near Stockbridge in Madison County, New York. Robert Seaver moved to Alexander in Genesee County in New York (Edson book, pg 478-9). Robert Whitmore Seaver enlisted in the Continental Army at age 14, and served until the surrender of Cornwallis. He applied for a pension on 12 May 1818 in Chautauqua, New York, aged 54 years 10 months. The soldier enlisted at Littleton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. In 1823, the soldier had wife Anne (aged 57) and the following children at home: Barney 18, Randolph Washington 15 & Horatio Nelson 12. The soldier married Anne (or Anna) Edson on 26 February 1786 in Petersham, Worcester County, Massachusetts. The soldier died 31 July 1836, and his widow applied on 10 Sep 1838 in Chautauqua County, New York, aged 71 on 14 Nov 1837. The soldier's son, Randolph W. Seaver aged 45, made an affidavit on 14 December 1853 at Charlotte, New York and stated that his mother Ann had died in March 1852, leaving children Robert, John D, Barney E., Randolph & Horatio N. Seaver (Virgil D. White, "Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, File # W19013). In the 1820 United States Census, Robert W. Seaver was a head of household residing in Gerry town, Chautauqua County, New York. The household included eight free white males aged 10 to 16, one free white male aged 16 to 26, one free white male over age 45, one free white female under age 10, and one free white female over age 45 (1820 United States Census, Chautauqua County, New York, Population Schedule, Gerry, Page 073, FHL Microfilm 0,193,721). In the 1830 United States Census, Robert W. Seaver (indexed as "Leaver") was a head of household in Charlotte township, Chautauqua County, New York. The household included two free white males aged 20 to 30, one free white male aged 60 to 70, one free white female aged 10 to 15 and one free white female aged 60 to 70 (1830 United States Census, Chautauqua County, New York, Population Schedule, Charlotte, Page 311, FHL Microfilm 0,017,146).
