My dad was one of the kindest people I have ever known. He could show his love for you in his eyes. He was in the Navy Est. 1942 through 1946. I was conceived when he got home and was born in 1947. He was a hard working man of about 6 feet in stature with blue eyes that could actually twinkle. I miss him dearly.

I have the original Certificate of Confirmation dated 1935 from the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer of St. Paul, Minnesota and a certificate of attendence to Evangelical Lutheran Sunday-School dated 1934 from the same church, also an original.

(Medical):He had cancer of the Larynx and just a little over a year was diagnosed with lung cancer which killed him. He also had allergies, asthma, allergic vasculitis, foot problems. He smoked most of his young life but quit 35 years before the cancer took him. But he did smoke a cigar after he quit cigarettes which I am sure contributed.

Robert passed away in Lexington Health Care Center where he had lived out the last months of his life. He was cremated by Hillside Crematory, funeral establishment was Bradshaw-Highland in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Cause of death was metastatic laryngeal cancer but lung cancer followed about a little over a year after he had a laryngectomy and was told the cancer was all removed. Partners Health Care did not do chemo or radiation therapy or even take an xray of his lungs in that last year. I tried to get the state involved to investigate the health care provider but the laws in Minnesota at the time, were such that you could not get any help to go after an HMO.

  8. I have his Certificate of Confirmation and Certificate of Attendance in Evangelical Lutheran Sunday-school.
  9.   This is the place where my parents met. Robert's father pulled him out of school when he was a Junior to work in his grocery store. He was never able to complete school since the war came and he was drafted into the Navy. I have a form from his teacher that was sent home dated Feb. 1, 1938 stating that he is more than 10% underweight with secondary anemia and chronic tonsillitis.
I also have a tuition Certificate in his name dated 25 April 1937 for enrollment in the Modern Professional Photography for $96.00 and easy monthly terms. This cost included a 5 x 7 Professional View Camera. He may not have completed this course.
  10. 10.0 10.1 Guessing at the date. I know he did not finish his last year of high school. His father pulled him out of school and he had to work in the grocery store.
  11.   I remember my Mother telling me that when she scrubbed the floor at the place on Thomas where we lived when I was a baby the floor would freeze in the winter.
  12. This address was listed on a contract for the purchase of furniture.
They also lived on Thomas St. when I was born (1947) until about 1952.
    This would be Ward 14?
  13. His Induction order is dated October 22, 1942, his Discharge papers are dated December 1, 1945. He traveled to Belgium, Germany, France, Holland, England and probably more countries during WWII.
  14. along with his brother Kenneth for years in the Grocery business in St. Paul, the last store was on 419 S. Hamline. At one point Kenneth left the business and Robert bought him out. There was not enough income for both families so Robert became the sole owner of the Pittelkow Market on Hamline and Palace. His family also resided there above the store, address 417 S. Hamline Ave.
