Residence 275 S. Pascal zip 55105 St. Paul MN. Death cert. states he was a grocer. He owned a store on University Ave. He was never in the service. Adopted at age 20 by Wilhelm and Emilie Pittelkow. Birth name on adoption papers-adopted by William and Amelia Pittelkow Came to live with Wilhelm & Emilie when he was 2. One of the articles said he was a little over 1 yr old. Obituary says he was 75 a grocery store owner until 1953 was also in real estate for about 8 years. He and Lydia had been married 51 years. His mother has several names, Anderson was supposedly his birthname per adoption papers, his SSN application listed his mother as [Wilimena] Bereant and his adopted mother is listed as Emilie Pittelkow but she also has the name Emelia, Amielia and Emmaila on census records. Florence Pittelkow sent an email in 2002 that says that he was born in Bethesda Hosp in 1888 his father was William Pittelkow and his mother Amlia Berg. Florence said that Harry owned a Grocery store on Dale and Edmunds. It went out of business and he bought a building across the street and opened up another Grocery store. That area of St. Paul is referred to as "Frog Town" due to the amount of Frence people who lived there. Florence Pittelkow told a story that Harry had been driving in his car and tossed a cigarette out the window. It flew back into the back seat and started a fire. He did not know that this had happened until he reached his destination. His surname that he was born with may be Andersen if he is of Swedish decent.

(Medical):stated in his obituary

Funeral notices state the same age=1889
On his Registration card he listed his birthdate as 19 July, 1889. He was 27 at the time. He had to register in 1917 or 1918 depending on the month that would leave a span of 1889-1891
    1890 is supported by:
1895 MN State Census shows he was 5 years old=1890

  28. On his Registration Card.-569 Dale St.
Also in R. L. Polk & Co. St. Paul City Directory 1904 & 1909. This was probably the Store address. Florence Pittlekow said that they lived next door to the store (probably 561 N. Dale).
    R. L. Polk 1898 shows this address also for Wm. Pittelkow. Harry would have been around 9.
S/B 561 Dale. This address was the store.

  35. H., wife Lydia, sons Harold, Stanley & Warren. Wm. is listed as a Foster Father.
  36. From application for SS#.
Dale and Edmonds would probably be Ward 12?
Also listed on 1920 US Census.
From my Aunt Genevieve, email dated 9-14-04-she is absolutely positive that this is the home address. 569 North Dale was probably the address of the grocery store. (this address appears on 1904 R.L.Polk Dir. where it shows Harry is working.)
  37. location of 561 Dale St. (His father was the salesman). He had 2 stores on Dale & Edmunds. One went bankrupt and he then bought another nearby. He had 3 or 4 stores. One was at 599 Wabasha St. (See newpaper clipping of an attempted robbery date around 1941). On his Registration Card 1917-18 he listed his home and store at 569 Dale St. This address is also shown for the place of business in the 1909 R. L. Polk directory.

Harry and his wife lived above the store on Dale St. and 3 or 4 of the boys
    were born there.

He actually bought the store at 419 S Hamline and sold it to Robert and Kenneth.
  38. I have browsed through Ward 8 & 9 but found no Pittelkows.
  39. Address from a Sale Agreement with Koppy Motors, Inc. to purchase a 1935 used 2 door Ford for $225.00. It appears that there was a trade in of a 1931 Ford Coach. The reverse side of this Sale Agreement looks like this automobile was purchased by Robert Pittelkow, Harold's son.
This address is probably a business address and not a residence.
  40.   Application for Social Security-Harry F. Pittelkow of 561 No. Dale, St. Paul, MN. Note: his age and birthdate do not match. He wrote he was 58, then changed it to 57. His birthdate listed as 19 July 1889, place of birth St. Paul, MN. Father Wm Pittelkow mother Wilemena Pittelkow crossed out and Berean[t] written above. Note this is a completely different name than his adopted mother. He listed Ken - Robert Pittelkow, 2 of his sons, as his employer.

  42. Funeral for Harold Pittelkow-Services for Harold F. Pittelkow 75 of 275 S. Pascal St. will be helad at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday in Calvary Lutheran church, Wellesley and S. Hamline. Burial will be in Elmhurst cemetery.
Mr. Pittelkow, grocery store owner until 1953, was also a real estate salesman for several realtor firms for about 8 years. He and his wife, Lydia, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in December.
Born in St. Paul, Mr. Pittelkow lived here all of his life. He died in Bethesda hospital Saturday in a diabetic coma complicated by pneumonia.
Survivors are his wife; five sons, Harold W., Stanley W., Warren H., Robert E. and Kenneth E., St. Paul; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
