Robert Lewis was baptised on 19th October 1790 at Willen in Buckinghamshire, son of Sarah Lewis, formerly Northern, and her husband Thomas Lewis, a labourer. In 1793, when Robert was only two years old, his mother died.

On 15th February 1820, aged 29, Robert married a widow called Elizabeth Meacham, formerly Rainbow. They settled in the neighbouring village of Milton Keynes, where they had a son in 1821 and a daughter in 1824. Back in Willen, Robert's father died in 1823. Robert and Elizabeth's daughter died in 1826 when she was only two years old.

Elizabeth died in 1832, aged 48.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses both find Robert living in Milton Keynes and working as an agricultural labourer.

By 1861 Robert had moved about nine miles north from Milton Keynes to Ravenstone. He appears in both the 1861 and 1871 censuses living in almshouses there. Robert lived to be 88 years old. He was buried on 16th September 1879 at Ravenstone.

    Baptisms in 1790: Robert, son of Tho[ma]s & Sarah Lewis bapt[ised] Oct[obe]r 19th

There is a second entry the following year:
    1791 / * Robert son of Thomas & Sarah Lewis Jan[ua]ry 16
The register does not specify what the asterisk means, but there are a couple of entries in 1791 with asterisks that appear to relate to children who had already been baptised once. It is therefore considered likely that the asterisked entries are the dates when children previously privately baptised were received into the congregation.
