24. Robert Kirkpatrick (7)(6) was born between 1748 and 1749. He died on 13 Apr 1803 in Bullock's Creek Church, York Co., South Carolina. Robert Kirkpatrick was the youngest son of James. His dates are found o n his headstone in the Bullock's Creek Cemetary. His death date is giv en as 13 April 1803, at age of 54. This would make his birth date 1748 o r 1749.

His wife was Rebecca, but we do not know her surname. Because two of h er children have the middle name of Wood, it has been suggested that he r maiden name was Wood. While the suggestion is a good one, it has not b een investigated by us. It has also been suggested that her maiden nam e was Galloway, and it is a fact that several Galloways were involved i n the settlement of her estate. Her headstone beside Robert's in Bullo ck's Creek Cemetary reads: "Died November 4, 1833, age 70-80."

Robert Kirkpatrick served in the South Carolina militia during the Amer ican Revolution. Audited Account 4334 in the South Carolina Archives, s hows him being paid for "30 days as horseman in Captain Moffet's compan y of Colonel Bratton's regiment..." This claim was paid as recorded in I ndent Book Y, No. 1240 (S.C. Archives). Robert Kirkpatrick also had an other claim involving the supplying of sundries to the Continental Line a nd to the militia. This indent is in Book I, No. 338. The same audite d account shows Kirkpatrick claiming and being paid 50 pounds for the l oss of a horse while in the public service of South Carolina. The firs t and third of these claims bear the name Robert Kirkpatrick, the secon d is under the name of Robert Kilpatrick.

Reference to the will of James Kirkpatrick, the father, shows that Robe rt Kirkpatrick and his wife Rebecca inherited a sizable piece of land o n which the father had lived. Day Jewell states that Robert amassed mo re land before his own death.
