The area reserved was 5 acres fronting Reserve Street. The Eaglehawk Old Monumental Section is laid out in orderly rectangular plats. It has all denominations and a Paupers section. There are many magnificent trees lining the roadways such as Bunya Pines, Morton Bay Figs, Oak, Hoop Pine, Canary Island Pine and Silky Oak. The first recorded burial at the Eaglehawk Cemetery is that of 21 year old John Edmond McDonough. He was interred in Grave 1 Section C on 6th July 1864. Today there is still a monument standing that was erected in his memory. There have been 6 Sextons live in the Sextons Residence formerly located near the front gates of the old monumental section. The cottage was built in the 1870's and was demolished in the 1970's.

  16. Henderson - Mr. Robert Stanley Henderson of Orlando Street Eaglehawk who died at the age of 67 was born at Eaglehawk and was the son of Thomas and Eleanor Henderson. A railway worker he was a member of the 38th. Battalion in the first A/F. He is survived by his wide Nellie Irene: five daughters Mavis (Mrs. Hynes), Melva (Mrs.Andrews), Mary (Mrs. Kennedy), Elsie (Mrs. Crombie), and Joan (Mrs. Jackson) and two sons George and James. The funeral left Farmers Chapel yesterday for the Eaglehawk Cemetery. The Rev. R.N. Bowen conducting the services. An RSL service was also held at the graveside.
