According to early history found in record books, the first Grandey that came to America was Robert Grandee in the year 1674. He had previously lived amid the French Huguenots, later migrated to the British Empire living in both Ireland and Scotland. It was while in Scotland that the last name was spelled Graundey. Giving the broad sound of the Scotish dialect.

Later, Robert came to America in 1679 (1674?). Again dropping the u from his last name. He took his oath of allegiance at Muddy River in Boston, Massassuchets. He married Mercy Parker and they reared a family of six children - Mercy, Elizabeth, John, Robert II, Edmund, and Rebecca. Their baptismal records date from 1679 to 1686.
