Facts and Events
Robert moved with his family to Northampton, now Lehigh Co., PA 1771. Then to Northumberland Co. 1773. He fled with family for safety from Indians to Bucks Co. 1776 and returned to Northumberland 1777. He joined Col. Wm. Crook's reg. and fought in battle of Germantown, Oct. 3, 1777. Was then discharged and returned to his home on Susquehannan. Indian raids caused him to move family to previous home in N.J. He rejoined the army and served to end of war. Moved family to Shemokin Creek Northumberland Co. 1783 and lived there until 1789. Moved to site of Meadville, French Creek Valley July 6. At age 72 when war of 1812 broke out, he went with his four sons and two grandsons to Erie to enlist. He was persuaded by friends to return home because of age. |
