Robert FARQUHAR of Newhall, Kincardines., was b. 3sep1723, son of William Farquhar and Mary Ross, who married 22aug1721. Robert married (1) Margaret Rose (d. 21apr1750, aged 22) and (2) 17jun1754 Agnes MORISON, daughter of James Morison of Elsick, provost of Aberdeen. Robert d. may1783 (book “Family Record of the name of Dingwall Fordyce”). Robert married Agnes at Aberdeen (IGI). According to obit of Arthur Farquhar, James Morison of Elisich was provost of Aberdeen in 1745 and distinguished himself by his firm attachment to the house of Brunswick (Gentleman’s Magazine 1843). Robert Farquhar was a merchant and stationer. Robert was later designated "of Newhall" (not Blackhall as Oswald Farquhar Lumsden says) which was the property adjoining Elsick in the Parish of Fetteresso, south of Aberdeen, near the coastal village of Newtonhill (D. Sangster). Robert and Agnes, children: M James FARQUHAR was b. 1759 and d. 1819. James m. Barbara Dingwall FORDYCE. James was a R.N. surgeon. Barbara was b. abt 1775 at Aberdeen (1851 census). M Arthur FARQUHAR was b. 1772 as 6th son and d. at Carlogie Cottage, Aberdeenshire, 25sep1843 (aged 71). Arthur became Sir Arthur Farquhar, Rear Admiral of the White, C.B. and K.C.H. and married 15aug1809 Jane MURRAY (d. oct1816), daughter of James Murray of Camvere, and had 4 children (Gentleman’s Magazine 1843). Arthur had a son, Rear Admiral Arthur Farquhar. M William FARQUHAR was born about 1770, probably 26feb1774 (oneworldtree). |
