On April 22, 1944 he filled out a personnel placement form requesting advancement to basic officer or motor officer, indicating that he was currently in training at Camp Lee, Virginia. The training included basic training, tec. training as truck driver and field training. On May 15, 194? (probably Aug/July 1944) Robert L. Evans crossed the equator on the S. S. Sea Snipe, piloted by Capt. W. S. Tyrrell. On 10/9/45 Tech/4 Robert Evans, #37706663, Chief Dispatcher, Motor Pool Base X received a commendation from Arthur G. Trudeau, Brigadier General, USArmy, for splendid achievements in maintaining a smooth and efficient operation of the motor pool. Return voyage was July 27 to Aug. 11 1946? on the U.S.A.T. Sea Barb, with 2800 other passengers. They left Manilla and landed in San Francisco (taken from "Barb Wire", souvenir copy of the ship's daily paper). Military separation 8/16/46, Camp Beale, CA. Total of 2 years, 1 month and 3 days served in Southern Philippines.
