Robert Cowan (b. 1mar1809), son of Walter Cowan, Leith mercht, was apprentice to Richard Cowan (1780-1837, unm), son of Robert Cowan, Glasgow mercht (Society of Writers to the Signet). Will of Richard Cowan, W.S, Edinburgh, reg 1837 (scotlandspeople), d. 20may1837 (genforum Grindlay section). Richard could not have been a son of Lilias Horsburgh as Lilias had a son James in 1780 (IGI).
