HAMILTON.

There was a large gathering on Friday night at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Conn, Denison-street, Hamilton, on the occasion of a welcome home to their son, Trooper R. S. Conn, of the Fifteenth Light Horse, Trooper Conn enlisted two and a half years ago, and saw service in Egypt and Palestine. He was met at Newcastle railway station on Friday evening by Alderman Wilson, Mayor of Hamilton, and representatives of the Hamilton Girls' Patriotic League, and driven to his home. The Mayor, who presided at the function at the house, proposed the toast of Trooper Conn. He congratulated him on his safe return, and eulogised his action in responding to the call of the Empire. The toast was supported by Messrs. a'Beckett and Kelly, of the Hamilton Soldiers' Welcome Home and Presentation Committee, and Mrs. H. Brien, president of the Hamilton Girls' Patriotic League. Trooper Conn made an appropriate response. Mr. J. Turnbull proposed the toast of Mr. and Mrs. Conn and the family, and referred to the excellent patriotic work they had done during the war. Miss Olive Conn was the secretary of that excellent organisation in Hamilton, the Girls' Patriotic League. Mr. Conn, in responding, said he and Mrs. Conn were proud to have two soldier sons and a daughter, who had done what she could on this aide for the soldiers. They must not, forget those brave boys who made the supreme sacrifice for the Empire. He hoped the memory of those brave fellows would ever live in the hearts and minds of the people of the Empire. The toast of the Mayor was honoured, at the instance of Mr. C. Conn. After supper, games and dancing were engaged in. During the evening the Mayor presented Trooper Conn with the Hamilton citizens' medal.
