HAMILTON.
A general meeting of the Red Cross Day Committee was held in the council chambers last night. Alderman E. Wilson, the Mayor, presided. The treasurer reported that the amount raised by the Hamilton committee, including proceeds of stall by the Hamilton Red Cross ladies in New- castle, totaled nearly £600. The chairman announced that Mrs. Wooley had taken seriously ill, and a resolution of sympathy was passed. He also mentioned the presentation of the honour flag which, through Miss Conn, was won for the municipality. Hamilton had always been ready to work earnestly for all patriotic movements, and as Mayor, he desired to thank them all for the way that Hamilton had been kept to the forefront. Mr. G. K. Conn stated that his daughter owed her position as Queen of the Leagues entirely to the people of Hamilton, as the whole support came from people who were resident or had businesses in the municipality. Miss Conn, in handing the honour flag to the chairman, thanked the committee for selecting her to be their representative, and also thanked all who helped in electing her Queen of the Leagues. The chairman, in receiving the flag as Mayor of Hamilton, stated that he did so with pleasure, and thanked Mr. Vercoe, secretary to the R.S.A., for the provision ,of such a handsome flag. Mr. Vercoo said that the returned soldiers appreciated the work which the Red Cross Society was doing at the battle fronts. Mr. A. E. Smith moved that the flag be handed over to the Hamilton Council, and be lent for patriotic and public school functions. The motion was carried. At the conclusion of the business the Mayoress (Mrs. E. Wilson) invited those present to join in refreshments.
