Robert 'Bob' Coleman (April 7, 1917 - May 16, 2009)

U.S. Veteran URBANA – Robert (Bob) E. Coleman, 92, of Urbana passed peacefully on May 16, 2009, to join the Lord God in eternal life. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Owens Funeral Home. Rev. Lutz Braunig will officiate. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. Mr. Coleman was born April 7, 1917, in Montieth, Iowa, a son of Faye and Cora Rawlings Coleman, the eldest of 13 children. He married Nadine Williams on Feb. 13, 1943, in Danville. She preceded him on March 19, 1984, from complications of ALS. Survivors include two daughters, Janis Redman of Champaign and Dee (Bill) Huston of Mahomet; one son, Tom (Darby) Coleman of Champaign; a family friend, Robert Redman; grandchildren, Karl Redman, Jeremy Coleman and Kinzie Coleman; and great-grandson, Connor Redman. He was raised and graduated from high school in Clinton, Iowa. He proudly served in the Army Air Forces during World War II from 1941-45. After being discharged from from the military, he was employed at Chanute AFB as a federal services civilan where he worked as a master aircraft electronics instructor. Bob enjoyed his family; Bob Will's music; playing blackjack in Las Vegas, where many of his siblings reside; teaching blackjack; and organizing tournaments at the AmVets Post in Champaign. He played bass fiddle for the Rhythm Rangers and was an entrepreneur in the silk screen print production of Campus Sportswear.
