The final "n' and "r" are very difficult to distinguish in Reading records. Today his Pond is called Can's Pond (now filled in). On their deed in 1701 it has been interpreted as Carr but is surely Can. In vital records the births are listed under Ker but examination of images they are probably Kan. His wife's death record is recorded as Can. And the marriage record of his daughter Mary is recorded as Can.
