Known as "Major" or "Gent" Lewis Reno, probably because of his association with the county militia. He served as sheriff of Prince William County, VA in 1753, and was a corporal in the Prince William County, VA militia in 1756 for which he was paid 2,046 pounds of tobacco (Henings, Virginia Statutes, v.7, p.24). From 1761 until his death he was Justice of the Peace and served in the County Court. He dealt extensively in real estate throughout his life. On September 27, 1761, Lewis Reno and his wife Elizabeth Reno (nee WHITLEDGE) released 428 acres to William Baylis of Fairfax County, Virginia. They were noted as being of Dettingen Parish, Prince William County, Virginia. This was the same land granted to him on October 30, 1764. On March 5, 1764, Lewis Reno and Elizabeth sold 69 acres to William French. This was land granted to Lewis Reno by deed on September 24, 1743. In October 1765(? 1759) he was part of a land transaction concerning 519 acres in Frederick County, Virginia. His brother John Reno was a witness on this. In June 1766 he leased 428 acres in Frederick County, Virginia, to Samuel Semple.
  • In Frederick County, Virginia, Deed Book 11, p. 93, June 29, 1766, as transcribed by Amelia C. Gilreath, we find the following:
"[Lease] Between Lewis Reno Sheriff of the Parish of Dettingen County of Prince William [to] Samuel Semple farmer of Parish and County of Frederick . . . consideration of five Shillings . . .
