Robert Avery, second son of Dr. William and Margaret Avery, baptised in Barkham, Berks, England, December 7, 1649, … came to America with his parents. … At the age of twenty-seven he married Elizabeth, daughter of Job and Sarah Lane of Malden, Mass. Robert Avery died (per records) Oct. 3, 1722. His stone in Dedham cemetery is inscribed thus: "Here Lyes Buried y^e Body of Ensigne Robert Avery, who Dec^d Oct. y^e 4^th 1722 in y^e 73^d year of his age."

III. m. 13 Apr. 1676, Eliz. d. of Job Lane, had Eliz. b. 21 Dec. 1677; Rachel, 1 Sept. 1679; Robert, 28 Nov. 1681; John, 26 Feb. 1685 or 4 Feb. 1686; H. C. 1706; Jonathan, 20 Jan. 1695; and Abigail, 8 May 1699; and he d. 4 Oct. 1722.
