Rinear was the son of Jacob and Esther Miller who came from Canada when he was 11 years old. He married Ann Scott. They had 11 sons. They divorced in 1882. He married Anna L. Stade. He was staying with son Frank in Illinois, giving birthdate of July 1835. Rinear named for maternal grandfather; a family name that goes back to their origins in Long Island, then New Jetsey and Western New York in the 1700's. Not clear as yet the precise lineage, but almost certainly these Van sickles descend from original immigrant Ferdinandus Van Syckle, and his three sons Ranier, Johannesburg or Ferdinand; both Renier I and Johannes named sons Rinear, Reynier, or Ranier.
