Richard Woolfolk III lived in King William Co. when he received a patent for land in Spotsylvania Co., Va. When Orange Co. was later formed, the land fell within Orange Co.

Richard III moved with his son, Sowyel, to Central Ky in 1784. He lived to be 101 years old.
