Facts and Events
Richard Street's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is in 1700 when he and his wife Mary had a son named Matthew baptised at Shillington in Bedfordshire. They then moved a few miles to the east to the village of Stotfold, where they had a son named Richard in 1702, then daughters named Mary in 1705 and Ann in 1707. In 1710, Richard and Mary's daughter Mary died aged just five years old. Six months later, Richard and Mary had another daughter, whom they also named Mary, after the daughter they had lost. Finally, Richard and Mary had a daughter called Sarah in 1713. Richard's wife Mary has yet to be traced after the baptism of their youngest child in 1713. Richard died in 1723, being buried at Stotfold on 29th December 1723. He had lived there for over twenty years. The burial record described him as Richard Street senior, implying that his son Richard was probably still alive and living locally. The burial record also tells us that Richard had been a blacksmith. References
