Richard A. Sommers, Sr., 79, of Canadensis, died Friday afternoon, September 29, 2017, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of the late LouNette (Vervalin) Sommers who died September 28, 2011.
Born on July 5, 1938 in Monroe County, he was the only child of the late Herman H. and Rhoda (Corey) Sommers and was a lifetime resident of Barrett Township.
He was a self-employed carpenter and furniture maker and also owned and operated Colony Village, Pocono Mineral and Gem, and Sommers Workbench.
Richard was a member of Canadensis United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Todd Sommers and Richard A. Sommers, Jr. both of Canadensis; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Sommers of Canadensis.
Visitation will begin at 10:00AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM on Friday, October 6, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. The Rev. George Alt will officiate. Cremation was private and burial will take place at a later date at Moravian High Acres Cemetery in Canadensis.
