[edit] Notes
According to Boddie, Richard Reynolds, who was the son of Christopher Reynolds, married JOYCE [said to be the daughter of Richard Staples], and they witnessed a deed together in 1693. Richard Reynolds and Joyce, his wife, sold land in 1706. This Richard Reynolds was referenced as “Sr” in the deed books at the time, and Boddie claims that the Richard Reynolds “Jr” of the time was likely his nephew, a son of his brother, Christopher Reynolds. Boddie also states that there was ANOTHER Richard Reynolds who married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Sharpe, before 1699. No mention is made of the father of this third Richard Reynolds. Further, Boddie states: “Richard Reynolds died intestate, for his personal estate, totaling 28,546 lbs. tobc., was appraised June 24, 1707, by Giles Driver, Thos. Allen, John Wright, John Parments. Children: 1. Jane, m. Richard Casey who made his will Mar. 8, 1745/46, recorded June 9, 1748. His legatees were: daughters: Anne, Sarah, Patience, Martha; sons Richard, grandson John S. Wills, daughter Anne Applewaite, dau. Martha Wills, dau. Sarah Smelley; friend John Wills. (W.B. 5-112; C. 2-123) 2. Elizabeth 3. Christopher[3] 4. Richard[3]” Through multiple merges, we currently have these three Richard Reynolds conflated. Richard Reynolds, son of Christopher Reynolds, who was married to Joyce Staples, died before 24 June 1707, which means the Find-a-grave records showing Richard Reynolds' death as 1711 belong to a different Richard Reynolds, most likely the THIRD Richard Reynolds who was married to Elizabeth Sharpe and who was not the son of Christopher Reynolds who died in 1654. |
