Biography

Lundy11 Carroll 1765-1815: The Settlements, By John Perry Alderman; Published by Alderman Books, 1985, p. 219. The Lundys were Quakers and through the old Quaker records are known to descend from a Richard Lundy who sailed from England to Massachusetts and five years later moved to Pennsylvania where William Penn was encouraging Quaker settlements. There was a second Richard Lundy and then a third Richard, each the son of the previous Richard Lundy. The third of the name was born in Pennsylvania in 1715 and married Ann Wilson in 1739, following which he settled in Warren County, New Jersey. There he held public office, sired eleven children and died Nov. 16, 1776, survived by the widow and ten of the children, all of whom migrated from New Jersey. The tradition is that the widow, Ann Wilson Lundy, came with her son John to Virginia and lived to an old age.
The eleven children (1) Samuel Lundy, born 1741, married Sarah Webster and settled in Ontario, Canada where he died in 1826. (2) William Lundy, born 1741, married Nancy Silverthorn and settled near Niagra Falls in Canada where he died in 1829; the battle of Lundys Lane, fought with the British in 1814 was on his property. (3) Amos Lundy, born 1743, married Ann Collins and came to Virginia. (4) Sarah Lundy, born 1744, married John Kester and came to Virginia. (5) Richard Lundy, born 1746, married Mary Stockton and also settled in Virginia. (6) Ann Lundy, born 1747, married William Webster. (7) James Lundy, born 1749, died in 1750. (8) Ebenezer Lundy, born in 1751, moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania. (9) John Lundy, born in 1751 (twin to Ebenezer) married Rebecca Silverthorn and came to Virginia. (10) Elizer Lundy, born in 1753, married Christiana Brown and died in 1782 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. (11) Azariah Lundy, born in 1754, died in 1784, following which his widow and children are said to have moved to Virginia.
