The Lundys were Quakers and through the old Quaker records are known to descend from a Richard Lundy who sailed from England to Massachusetts and five years later moved to Pennsylvania where William Penn was encouraging Quaker settlements. There was a second Richard Lundy and then a third Richard, each the son of the previous Richard Lundy. The third of the name was born in Pennsylvania in 1715 and married Ann Wilson in 1739, following which he settled in Warren County, New Jersey. There he held public office, sired eleven children and died Nov. 16, 1776, survived by the widow and ten of the children, all of whom migrated from New Jersey. The tradition is that the widow, Ann Wilson Lundy, came with her son John to Virginia and lived to an old age. |
