Wee the subscribers Being a Committe appoynted by the Town Councill of Providence in the County of Providence and Colony of Rhode Island &c: To Lay out a Highway (In the westerly part of Cranston, between Bald and Apple-house hills.) a Cross the farm of Richard Knight son of Jonathan Knight: deceased and on: the 12th day of this Instant May A D:1743: wee went upon the Business: An began at a heape of stones att the westerly side of said Knights farm: ajoyneiing to highway: westward and Run E: 24:N Dist 8:r:&1/2 to another heape of stones: then E: 18:N Dist 36: r; to a small White oake tree; then E: 16 N:Dist 8:r: then E 15: N: Dist 30: r: then E: 33 N Dist:10 to an Other heape of stones: then E 24 1/2 N Dist 18:r: to anothr heape of stones a Little Distance from said Knights house thence: N: 15 E Dist 12:r: to an other heape of stones: then: E: 39 N: Dist 29:r: to the highway on the Easterly side of said Knights farme The said highway is two Rods in wedth and Lies on the Northerly side of the afore said Corces; The above Written is [a] Trve Return Errors Excepted: as Witness our hands the: 16th Day of May A D = 1743 It is to be further understood and the order of the above said Committee that said highway to the Eastward of the said Richard Knights house is not to be Laid open untill the first day of march next: Provided he Keepe that way open that is already open; And agreed with said Knight for his Land and Damage of Cutting: to aLow him the: Sum of twenty Pounds Att a Town Councill held att Providence on the 16th day of May Anno Domini = 1743 = the within Returne was by the said Councill accepted approved and allowed = Attest Richard Waterman Clerke of ye Councill New England Ancestry of Susan Alma Cook 1866-1934 Ex. son Richard. The Mason Publishing Company Boston & Syracuse 1902 - Page 423 From other records of Captain (Thomas) Fenner it appears that "Samuel Ralph, George Potter, Zachariah Field, Thomas Garrard, went out on the Scout upon the 17 of August 1704. Thos. Fenner Jr. and Thomas Grarrard went out on the Scout upon the 24 of August, and Henry Randall went to joyne with them on the 27th of August. Richard Knight, the Soon of Jonathan Knight, and Richad Knight , the Soon of Ann Knight, went forth upon the scout the 1st of September, and John Tucker and Thomas Taylor went forth upon the scout on the 5th of September".
