From the book "Life of James W. Jackson" pg 13 speaking of James' parents, Richard and Jane Jackson: "The family mansion, a fine old country house, is on the Georgetown and Leesburg turnpike, 8 miles from Georgetown. The Post Office was kept there in the old times of scarcity of houses whence the one now used has the name of the house "Prospect Hill." The boys were early distinguished for their bold and restless dispositions. . ." Richard died when the children were young, but his wife "did everything to secure her children the advantages of education".
