Elizabeth Fouts married Richard Clampett in "1832" (per Burningtown Baptist Church records) in Ashe County (no marriage record found). Richard was born ca 1809/10 in Stokes Co, NC, a son of George Clampett and Ann ---. Richard and Elizabeth moved to Macon County with the rest of the family (including his parents) in the 1830's. They were listed on the 1840 census in Macon Co, NC.
On 1 Jun 1843 Richard Clampet and E. Collins (Eli Collins) witnessed a deed from Michael J. Watters to Samuel H. Watters. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book D page 1639). On 2 Sep 1844 Richard Clampett and E. Collins (Eli Collins) witnessed two deeds, one from James H. Waters to Margaret Waters, and another from Saul H. Waters to Margaret Waters. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book D page 1855, 1856). On 9 Sep 1844 Richard Clampett and George Rowland witnessed a deed from Samuel H. Waters to Jacob Fouts. (Macon Co, NC Deed Book E page 289). In June 1845 Court, Richard Clampett was appointed overseer of the Burningtown Road. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 page 305). In September 1846 Richard Clampett returned his road order (resigned his position as overseer). (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 page 343). Richard Clampet was listed as a juror in March 1849 Court. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 page 406). Richard Clampet was listed as a juror in June 1849 Court. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 page 410). In December 1849, the Sheriff summoned Richard Clampet, Jacob Fouts, James Fouts (and others) as jurors to lay off a road. (Macon Co, NC Court Minutes 1838-1855 page 429). Richard Clampett and family were listed on the 1850 census next door to Elizabeth's parents.
Richard and family were listed on the 1860 census in Macon County in Burningtown District, next to Elizabeth's brother John Fouts.
Richard and family were listed on the 1870 census in Macon in Burningtown Township.
Richard and family were listed on the 1880 census in Burningtown Township.
Elizabeth Fouts Clampett died on 1 Jan 1892 and Richard Clampett died on 23 May 1895. I would assume they are buried at Burningtown Baptist Church Cemetery. I have not yet checked on this. They were members of that church. |
